The Geological Engineering program in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a PhD candidate to join the Geomechanics and Damage Group (GeoD). The successful candidate will participate in several projects relating to microcrack and damage evolution; work will be directly applicable to the areas of enhanced geothermal systems, oil and gas, mining, underground construction, and tunneling. The successful candidate for this position will be part of an interdisciplinary team that is involved with developing physical properties prediction methodologies for the purpose of reducing risk and uncertainty in underground operations in deep environments. Please find the following for the position description and details: We are currently seeking to hire a postdoc in the areas of geotechnical engineering, materials engineering and characterization with expertise in soil and/or cementitious materials testing at Colorado School of Mines. This position is initially one year with possibility of extension to two years. The new hire is expected to start by January 1, 2021 and depending on the candidate’s availability, the start date can be as early as November 1, 2020. Our research efforts focus on conversion of mine tailings into sustainable construction materials. The Granular Geomechanics Group in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University is seeking a full‐time (1.00 FTE), 12‐month, fixed‐term Postdoctoral Scholar starting in October 2020 (open until filled). Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in civil engineering, materials science/engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline with expertise in granular mechanics. The ideal candidate will be comfortable developing new experimental protocols and proficient in image capture, processing, quantification, and analysis. Experience with discrete element method modeling (PFC3D, Yade, EDEM) is strongly preferred. A strong commitment to collaboration, diversity, equity, inclusion, and community building is a requirement for the position.
